Zaragoza-WIND: renewable self-consumption for data centers in Aragón
Yesterday, together with the President of the Government of Aragón, Jorge Azcón, we presented what will become the world’s largest renewable self-consumption project for data centers.
The Government of Aragón approved the Declaration of Investment of Regional Interest with General Interest for Aragón (DIGA) for our Zaragoza-WIND project in Botorrita, Zaragoza.
This marks a new milestone for our MERLIN Edged platform and will help position Aragón as one of the leading data center development hubs in Southern Europe.
✅ More than 156,000 sqm of built area and 144 MW of IT capacity, the largest capacity promoted by MERLIN in Spain.
✅ Around 5,000 jobs during construction, followed by more than 500 highly skilled permanent jobs.
✅ Developed around the principles of Zero Water, Zero Carbon and Big Data, with the ambition of becoming a global benchmark for sustainable digital infrastructure.
✅ Up to 87% renewable self-consumption, enabled by a pioneering combination of wind and solar power.
Zaragoza-WIND is another step forward in our data center growth strategy, with operations expected to begin in 2029.
